Toasted Coconut Float (A Creamy Kava Mocktail)

This one is for anyone whose ideal drink is somewhere between mocktail and dessert.

The Toasted Coconut Float is creamy, fizzy, nostalgic, and just a little over the top—in the best possible way. Kava Haven, cream soda, and toasted coconut vanilla creamer come together in a drink that reminds me of an old-school ice cream float, only with a tropical coconut twist.

And then there’s the toasted coconut. Please don’t skip it. Toasting takes just a few minutes, makes your kitchen smell incredible, and adds a nutty, caramelized flavor that makes this ridiculously simple drink feel special.

Add whipped cream if you’re in the mood. Personally, if I’m making something called a Toasted Coconut Float, I’m going all in.

Why You'll Love The Toasted Coconut Float Kava Mocktail

This is not a tart, botanical, barely-sweet mocktail. She’s creamy. She’s nostalgic. She would like dessert. And that’s exactly why I love her.

The vanilla and coconut flavors play perfectly with cream soda, while Kava Haven turns the drink into more of an evening ritual than your average soda float. It’s also incredibly easy to make because everything gets built directly in the glass. No cocktail shaker required.

How to Toast Coconut

If you’ve never toasted coconut before, don’t be intimidated. It’s almost suspiciously easy.

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F.
  2. Spread shredded coconut in an even layer on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 5-8 minutes, stirring once, until the coconut is golden and fragrant.
  4. Remove from the oven and let cool.

One warning: coconut can go from beautifully golden to very, very toasted quickly. Keep an eye on it, especially during those last few minutes.

Tips for Making the Best Toasted Coconut Float Kava Mocktail

Add the Soda Last

Cream soda is providing all those lovely bubbles, so don’t stir hard once it’s in. Add the Kava Haven and creamer first, top with soda, and then give everything a gentle stir. We want float, not flat.

Watch That Coconut

I know I already said it, but it bears repeating: do not walk away from your coconut. Start checking it around the five-minute mark. You’re looking for golden brown and fragrant, not dark brown and smoking while you wonder why the kitchen smells weird.

Make Extra Toasted Coconut

If you’re turning on the oven anyway, toast more than you need for one drink. Keep the cooled coconut in an airtight container and use it for another round, sprinkle it over yogurt or oatmeal, or eat it directly from the container while standing in the kitchen. No judgment here.

Easy Variations

If you can’t find toasted coconut vanilla creamer, vanilla or coconut creamer will also work. You can even add a tiny drop of coconut extract to vanilla creamer to boost the coconut flavor.

For an even more dessert-like version, skip the ice and add a small scoop of vanilla or coconut ice cream. Craving more coconut? The Coconut & Lime Fresca Cooler is its brighter, citrusy cousin.

Disclaimer: Kava is a natural, zero-proof root — not a supplement to replace other relaxation strategies or a full-time alcohol substitute, and it can become habit-forming if used heavily. Enjoy responsibly alongside other stress-relief habits (250mg kavalactones is the recommended daily limit).
