The Sunset Orange Autumn Harvest Fizz Marries Pumpkin and Orange for a Fall Mocktail Delight

Pumpkin and orange might not be the first flavor combination that comes to mind when you’re dreaming up a fall mocktail. But hear me out.

Fresh orange juice is sweet and bright, pumpkin butter brings all those cozy fall spices, and sparkling orange soda turns the whole thing into a fizzy drink that somehow tastes like golden hour in October.

The Sunset Orange Autumn Harvest Fizz is also incredibly easy to make. There’s no cocktail shaker required, it makes two drinks at once, and that spoonful of pumpkin butter does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to creating a warm, spiced fall flavor.

Why You'll Love This Pumpkin Orange Mocktail

Pumpkin butter may sound like an unusual mocktail ingredient, but it works surprisingly well. Unlike pumpkin puree, pumpkin butter is already sweetened and seasoned with warm spices, so a small amount adds both flavor and texture.

The citrus keeps everything bright while the sparkling orange topper adds plenty of bubbles.

It’s cozy without being heavy—which makes it especially good for Sober October, fall parties or those September and October afternoons when you want fall flavors even though it’s nowhere near hot-cider weather.

Ingredients You'll Need

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp pumpkin butter (or grab it at your nearest Trader Joe’s)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • orange-flavored seltzer (we love Clearly Canadian Sunset Orange, or your preferred orange-flavored sparkling water or soda), to top

Instructions:

  1. Add pumpkin butter, lemon juice and orange juice to a small glass or measuring cup
  2. Whisk until the pumpkin butter is completely incorporated. A handheld milk frother is especially handy for this, but a small whisk works too.
  3. Divide the mixture between two glasses.
  4. Add ice, then slowly top each glass with orange-flavored sparkling water or soda.

Garnish

  • Dried orange wheel
  • Cinnamon stick

Why Pumpkin Butter Works in a Mocktail

If you’ve ever tried mixing pumpkin puree directly into a cold drink, you know it can be tricky. Pumpkin butter is much easier.

Because it’s already cooked down with sugar and spices, you only need a tablespoon to give this mocktail plenty of fall flavor. Whisking it with the citrus before adding the sparkling water helps it dissolve evenly instead of leaving a spoonful of pumpkin sitting at the bottom of your glass.

Just make sure you’re using pumpkin butter, not regular butter with pumpkin flavoring. Pumpkin butter is a spread made from pumpkin, sugar and spices and is usually sold near jams, jellies and apple butter.

Notes

  • Can’t find an orange-flavored sparkling soda? Try orange seltzer for a less-sweet version, or use a mandarin or tangerine sparkling water.
  • You can also swap the orange topper for ginger beer. The result will be less citrus-forward but extra spicy and very fall-friendly.
